Island Bay Marine Education Centre

Today we had an awesome trip to the Island Bay Marine Education Centre.  Someone must have done a sun dance for us, because the weather was gorgeous (maybe a little bit chilly but that's ok!).  Victor & Judy at the Centre were fantastic, showing us some awesome sea creatures - both in the rock pools outside and inside "the bait house".  Check out their website: http://www.octopus.org.nz/ They have open days on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month - definitely worth a visit again.  We got to touch heaps of starfish, sea cucumbers, crabs and lots more.  We also got to feed the fish and the turtles.  Here are some pictures of the day ...

There was a sneaky wee octopus there too who decided to move from one tank to another by squeezing through a hole.  The hole was tiny, about the size of your fist.  We'd seen it on you tube clips, but it was cool to see it for ourselves.  He can squeeze through the hole because octopus don't have bones.  Check out the video I took of it ...
